About
EnglishTuts was built by one person who needed it first.

I did not grow up speaking English. I learned it the slow way — from the bottom, as an adult, long after the age when people tell you it is easy. I know what it is to understand a sentence perfectly and still not be able to say it back. I know the particular silence of having the answer and not the words.
I am an engineer by training, and languages were never supposed to be my subject. But learning one turned out to be the single thing that changed most about my life. Not because the grammar was interesting — though it is — but because of what came after it. Rooms I could not have walked into opened. Work I could not have applied for became possible. A language is not a skill sitting next to your other skills; it is the door the rest of them have to come through.
That is also why the opposite is so hard to watch. I have met a lot of people with more ability than me who never got a fair run at anything, because the one thing they were missing was the language to show it in. The talent was never the problem. It almost never is.
So I built this. It started as the resource I wished had existed when I was struggling, and it is still mostly that.
Why so much of it is free
The people most held back by language are usually the people with the least money to fix it. Putting the basics behind a paywall would have meant building a site for everyone except the people I built it for.
So 25 grammar lessons, the vocabulary builder, six games, a daily quiz, reading and listening practice are free, permanently, with no account needed to start. Not a trial. Not a teaser. If you never pay for anything here, that part is still yours.
And why the IELTS course costs what it does
IELTS preparation in India is expensive, and a lot of what it buys is a room and a timetable. If you can work on your own, you should not have to pay for those.
What you are paying for here is the practice material and the marking. Both IELTS courses — Academic and General Training — are included in one plan, not sold separately.

It is not a static course. Writing and Speaking answers are marked against the real IELTS criteria, with the specific sentences that cost you marks pointed at — the part a book cannot do and a class only does once a week.
One thing we will not pretend about: pronunciation is never scored here. Speaking answers are marked from what you said, and a transcript carries no sound. A number invented from text would be worse than no number.
Where it is going
This is early. The site is live, it is being used, and it is being changed most weeks. If something is wrong, missing, or simply harder than it should be, the fastest way to get it fixed is to say so — there is a question at the bottom of every page and an enquiry form that reaches me directly.
